Trial of 2 US sailors in gang rape case begins in Okinawa: Voice of Russia

The sailors were arrested on October 16 in Japan’s southern prefecture of Okinawa. According to the NHK channel, the accused have pled guilty but said they hadn’t planned the assault.

The rape case stoked outrage among the Japanese and triggered mass protests against the US presence in the country that has been associated with series of military sex crimes. Many demonstrators have demanded to reduce US troops and bases on the island.
