Bar owners in Okinawa say off-base drinking ban causes forced closures - The Japan Daily Press

Bar owners associations in Okinawa filed a petition yesterday asking the U.S. military to end its ban on off-base alcohol consumption and seeking help from the island governor to help loosen the rules. According to them, since the ban, there was a very steep drop in drinking among servicemen, which is causing them financial decline. In fact, 23 bars around the Marine Corps’ Camp Hansen alone have closed shop.
